Watch the first teaser for Disney•Pixar’s ‘Coco’

Disney•Pixar has released the first teaser for Coco, a family adventure centered on the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos. The teaser takes us through the story’s main jumping off point where Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) attempts to connect with his idol from years gone by, Ernesto de la Cruz (voiced by Benjamin Bratt), and finds himself in the Land of the Dead.

Disney showed off an entire musical sequence in the Land of the Dead at the D23 Expo in Anaheim in August 2015 and it was spectacular. This teaser doesn’t even scratch the surface of the amazing visuals Coco is prepared to offer. If the story can match those visuals, Coco could be the animated film to beat in 2017.

Coco is due in theaters November 22.

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history. Directed by Lee Unkrich (“Toy Story 3”), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist “Monsters University”) and produced by Darla K. Anderson (“Toy Story 3”), Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2017.
