Logan director and co-writer James Mangold doesn’t feel any better about post-credits scenes now than he did earlier this week when he trashed the modern blockbuster trend made popular by Marvel Studios. Mangold remained critical of those scenes Saturday night, though he at least watched his language. Mangold took to Twitter to explain why he […]
Logan writer-director James Mangold really hates post-credits scenes. Mangold, who was recently nominated for an Oscar® for Best Adapted Screenplay for Logan, didn’t pull any punches when the subject came up at Audi’s 2018 Writers Guild Association Beyond Words Panel last night. Despite having such a scene in one of his own films, 2013’s The Wolverine, Mangold is not […]
For the first time ever, a superhero movie has been nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar® and that film is Logan! Scott Frank, James Mangold (who directed the film), and Michael Green were nominated for their screenplay this morning.
During a New York press junket for The Greatest Showman, in which Jackman plays P.T. Barnum of Barnum & Bailey Circus, the newly retired X-Men actor gave his thoughts about Disney potentially buying up assets of Fox, which would effectively put all the characters of mutant-kind and the Fantastic Four under the same studio umbrella […]
Jerry Seinfeld indirectly convinced Hugh Jackman to retire his Wolverine character after 17 years, Jackman told Willem Dafoe during Variety’s “Actors on Actors.”
Hugh Jackman is officially done with the role of Wolverine after starring in Logan but the actor has finally promised to don the character’s classic blue and yellow costume (not on the big screen, though). Just maybe I will finally wear blue and yellow spandex for my #halloweencostume #tootall pic.twitter.com/0IwL6GoHzZ — Hugh Jackman (@RealHughJackman) October […]
The film is continuing to defy expectations. While Logan is the rare superhero project that doesn’t exist to help set up a shared universe or sequels, a spinoff is brewing (“We’re just working on a script,” Mangold says of a film that would center on Dafne Keen’s Laura). And it has emerged as a possible […]
Just as Toronto, the third leg of the fall festival trifecta, is about to wrap up, we have another tell-tale sign that the six-month-long Oscar season has begun in earnest. Academy campaigners often compete to be the first to send their For Your Consideration screener out, and this year the winner is: Logan. 20th Century […]
Reprising its role on The Wolverine, Rising Sun Pictures joined Director James Mangold’s team for Logan, the third and final installment in 20th Century Fox/Marvel’s “Wolverine” saga. Working under Production VFX Supervisor Chas Jarrett and Co-Producer Kurt Williams, RSP contributed some 230 shots to the dark, visceral tale, with the work ranging from animating the […]
“I was like, ‘It’s going to be amazing, I’m going to really prepare,’ and I sat in my room reading the lines,” she said. “Honestly, for me, I felt so — I felt an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and James Mangold sitting right in front of me.” Although she didn’t get […]
Hugh Jackman returns in his ninth run as Wolverine to take on his most ruthless enemy – old age! – LOGAN!
For Logan, a moment director James Mangold decided to cut proved to be crucial to the film’s whole tone. On the Logan Blu-ray, due out Tuesday, there are a number of deleted scenes, all of which have commentary by director James Mangold. They are all excellent — and for the most part were cut for […]
“Oh no there was a script stage. There was a story point where they go to Vegas, you know how they go to the Oklahoma casino? They go there and at this point Sabretooth is running like a major casino and really, really wealthy, and really kind of runs a town, and sort of respectable […]
“Anything’s possible,” says Mangold. “I’ve certainly talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly that’s possible.”
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Here’s something to sink your claws into. When Logan comes home for its Blu-ray release, those who buy a limited-edition Walmart version will get a nine-poster set commemorating Hugh Jackman’s 17 years playing Wolverine. That ought to help those mourning his retirement from the role.
