Hector, you are extrapolating too much in that ‘need for faithfulness’ – you can respect the source material, but not be EXACTLY like them.
Gingers have become an endangered species in comic book adaptations – Wally, Mary Jane etc. And also felt like Gwen should actually be the first love for Spidey, which the 2nd series did right helping cement Peter’s tragic journey that MJ helps him find something good in his life. As you guys said it yourself, there’s a reason for how Peter’s journey has gone over the years from Gwen to MJ and then marriage. While I also feel AMS2 was highly flawed, it atleast paved the way for MJ to be a stability in Peter’s life while being a strong independent woman herself – something apparently the first trilogy forgot.
You guys also didn’t go into the weird casting of Flash – physically very different from the Flash in comics. And Ned is a good school friend of Peter? Huh? And what’s Ganke doing there? Where’s Harry? And it’s a little peeve – but Jessica Jones was also a schoolmate of Peter…and I loved that she had a crush on him! I’m ok with that change, but saying that people wanting a red haired MJ is the same as saying Superman should be the same as he was in the 40s or Spider-man’s universe as it was in the 60s is the stupidest thing I’ve heard coming out of Hector’s mouth.
Tom Holland is an ok Spidey – still needs more exposure and more scenes to be even compared to Andrew. Homecoming is the film which will define him – if you’re gong off just Civil War’s cameo – then its a disrespect to both Toby and Andrew and shows a opaqueness I didn’t expect from you. Its a little of the Marvel lens that has helped him be accepted more easily. Which is apparently also coming in for the other Spidey cast members.
There are no biases here. Just a lot of questionable decisions that hopefully come together as a good movie, and not something that gets praised just because its Marvel stamped. I love Spider-man and I’m glad he’s at Marvel to fit into the extended universe – hopefully what I’m repeating is that Marvel respects the source material, not be slaves to them – without them saying that no matter what changes we make, people will accept it because we’re the MCU!
Mary Jane Watson was never a ginger.
I’m very disappointed in Kevin Feige and Marvel, if they basically tried to sneak in a “controversial” casting. If Zendaya is indeed their MJ, then why not confirm the casting from the beginning?! I’m PRETTY sure she’ll have red hair? And portray the character well. But of course fans were gonna be butthurt over it. LOL Talk about hanging a young actress out to dry, and not getting in-front of the story.
