What. A. Frickin. DISASTER.
LOL. This movie doesn’t even need to happen, and everything so far points to a disaster.
To be fair the man has been lacking lately. Rush was awesome, but he’s been very hit and miss, and commercially he’s career has taken a dive.
Either way, seems like a weird choice. He is a great director but filming is well underway and it’s not like he’ll be able to properly direct it like a director would want… Maybe money is the answer as to why he took this job.
Yeah, but this is DEFINITELY not one of those cases. Zero involvement with the film until 2 months in production?
I love Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind or Cinderella Man, not to mention some of his other less commercially successful films. But this is just an all out weird choice. Would much rather have a project from him like you described: “when he really connects with something and turns it on”.
Sure, but everything is already set in motion. Sure, editing can change a movie a lot (the OG Star Wars is a testament to that), but everything from the plot to the characterization is basically set in stone right now. I don’t know how he can change the movie that much, and it really can’t be good news that a director is joining a project (even one with an actual vision) where he wasn’t a part of pre-production and probably more than half of the production itself.
Frankly, this movie is DOA for me. There’s no point in having it in the first place, but if this guy can salvage it I’m all for it. But the thing is this is not his film. It’s Lucasfilm/Disney’s, and the other dudes were fired because they didn’t agree with the executives’ vision…
Sure but then again, such a movie is useless either way. Let’s not pretend that the other Anthology film was made with the intent to keep the OT sacred and not cynically. That movie was nothing but a cash grab. From the absolute lack of great original stuff, to the only positive moments having something to do with what was already known and loved by people before (Darth Vader, space battles, cameos). THAT’S why I don’t get Ron’s inclusion in this film. They really didn’t want to hide the fact that Rogue One was really only made to bring in the cash they spent on buying the franchise. I can’t see why anyone would make a Han Solo movie besides wanting to make money out of the name. His origin is absolutely worthless and pointless, and Harisson Ford is one of the main reasons as to why the character is so beloved. Frankly, it just seems more like a waste than anything, even if the movie turns out ok. They really seem to be wasting not only the license, but actually taking away from it.
Sure, but some movies, even though their main purpose is to make money, are made from a creative spark. Where is that spark in Rogue One? You have no likeable new characters, a very generic action movie plot, nothing remotely interesting regarding the third act (trailers made it seem like an heist-type situation, ended up lasting 30 seconds) and nothing to brag about except giving Darth Vader an action sequence with modern technology so fanboys could blow their wads. I’m not saying it’s a horrible film, far from that, it’s just painstakingly average and forgettable. And that’s why I’m afraid Han Solo will come from the same place. Especially since we already know Han Solo was a scoundrel and a womanizer before the OT. What will be his character arc in this movie? Starting off good and then turn into rebel? Seems so pointless.
Come on Ron Howard’s cool haha
It’s honestly going to be impossible for me and I feel some others to watch this movie and not be constantly thinking about who directed what parts and whose to blame if something isn’t good.
That sounds awesome! He’s due for a great movie
