I still think Tobey’s criticism came basically only after those movies were done, no? I could be wrong, but I think only around the first Amazing Spider-Man movie did I see people criticizing Tobey for not being the jokey-Spider-Man everyone apparently now knew they wanted, after Garfield did it.
I agree. His character was such a blank slate. But just because he made jokes while in the spidey suit, he’s better than Tobey? Worthless bullshit.
I don’t mind Garfield as an actor, I think he’s done some good work. But regarding Spider-Man he was simply awful.
It’s great to hear you say this about Tobey, though. So many people instantly jump on the previous actor of a multi-reboot character just so they can validate the current one.
I’d love that. Though I have to say, and I’ve already told you this, but a Reign adaptation with an older Tobey and Raimi back to direct would be flatout amazing. Sure, the comparisons to Logan would be endless, but I’m sure they could make it their own. Maybe a few years down the line… I don’t know, but take the radioactive sperm out of the equation and you really got something there, it even makes a commnet on the tired and usual ex machina bullshit present in almost every single super hero movie.
But I’d be more than happy with a spider-verse film.
I just want a good Spider-Man film about power and responsibility again. Homecoming was so underwhelming and okay at best for me.
I’d give it a 6, but I do agree with you.
Like how folks started shitting on Bale in order to make Affleck the definitive Batman.
Completely true.
