Unimaginably disappointed. I have no idea how they managed to make a worse film than TFA. I’m just speechless. It’s the first time ever where I’m not excited for what’s next in the saga. I just don’t give a fuck.
L.
L is for those who think the film is great.
But the Force Awakens is pretty good. I think they’re about on par. FA was really slick but a tad empty. This one was a bit sloppy but full of imagination.
I disagree. TFA is slick but unoriginal and full of plot holes. This new one is just a mess all around.
It’s not often a movie feels overlong but also needs more time to tell its story like LJ.
Not only did it not do a good job telling a story. But it shat on everything that was established before it. Just garbage.
I disagree completely. I think at 9 movies if you’re not winking and subverting tropes you’re just repeating yourself a la Force Awakens. It was always a terrible idea to keep the series going and as mythologies go you don’t get much dopier than Star Wars. Johnson is aware as a fan and his fan fiction film knows exactly what it is and what wiggle room is left in a creatively bankrupt franchise.
Subverting tropes is good when the story merits that. In this case, there was no fucking reason for all the subverting. If anything, it made the film far worse. Change is good. But completely fucking shafting previous lore and destroying established rules is stupid. Building up characters only for them to end up being forgettable and in all honesty straight up fucking garbage is not ok. That’s not effective story telling that’s just shit.
The Knights of Ren? Fuck them
Kylo’s infatuation with Vader? Fuck that
Snoke as a fucking whole? Fuck him too
Force sensitivity being rare? Fuck that bitches. Anyone can be a jedi
A good explanation for Rey being so over powered other than her being a Mary Sue? FUCK THAT
Luke actually staying true to himself? Gone
Shitty Leia Superman? Garbage
An entire fucking 40 minutes of a movie is useless and pointless with Finn and Rose on the fucking Casino Planet. Just straight up prequel levels of shit (and I’m talking about the bad parts of those films)
No satisfactory duel
Luke dying like a gigantic fucking bitch
Luke making A FUCKING MAP FOR PEOPLE TO FIND HIM IF THEY NEED HIM IN TFA. And yet in this fucking movie he’s surprised and for some fucking reason hates that Rey found him
Marvel levels of annoying jokes and I won’t even fucking mention how god damn terrible Phasma was.
A fucking satisfying reason for Maz Kanata having the lightsaber. NOPE
Any sort of fucking closure for Han. Gone
Most of the film being in freakin space also.
Oh god don’t even get me started on how stupid the space fights were logically.
A single fucking X-wing taking out a god damn dreadnought is plain retarded.
Not to mention that this movie pretty much is the slowest most boring pile of shit chase ever.
Ackbar dying off screen
Poe being a straight up douche
Laura Dern’s character withholding information for no fucking reason
The whole Snoke not hearing a fucking lightsaber rattling next to him on a fucking metal chair
The whole milk scene
The pointless fucking addition of the Porgs.
Sorry for the rant. I could go on for a while.
That’s a pretty good comprehensive list. Some of those I totally agree with. I think the greater commentary of how millenia of Jedi tradition can disappear and perverse in a few generations has great parallels to our current culture
That would be great if that was the fucking message the movie was giving us. You can lose the Jedi way. But to completely ass fuck established lore regarding the Force is inexcusable. According to this stupid fucking movie anyone can use the force. The whole fucking First Order Stormtrooper army can in theory be a fucking army of force users. That’s god damn shit story telling and a pathetic excuse for a film.
Rey stole the Jedi books. Meaning the Jedi would persevere. But they completely ass fucked what it means to be force sensitive and the ethereal nature of the force. Now it’s just a if you think you can be a jedi you can.
To quote a great man named Han Solo “That’s Not How The Force Works”
It’s been a staple around the house for the last 24 hours
That line could be a full review of TLJ
No my full review of TLJ would be what Luke said in TLJ. ” Amazing, everything you just said is wrong”. Everything that matters was wrong in this film.
It’s not the fact that he became one with the force that’s what makes him a fucking bitch. This is the same fucking character who went to confront Vader and the Emperor with a sliver of hope that his father could be saved. And you’re fucking telling me that he tried to kill his own nephew and the child of his best friend because he had a hint of the dark side. Something Luke had also fucking dabbled in temporarily.
Instead of picking up the X-Wing he decided to not only go see his sister for the last time in person but to die out of fucking exhaustion? That’s a fucking bitch way to day. He’s a fucking reclusive old man who for some fucking reason gets triggered when someone finds him EVEN THOUGH HE WAS THE ONE THAT FUCKING LEFT A GOD DAMN MAP TO FIND HIM.
But no. He ended up dying alone on a fucking rock. Having not trained Rey properly
Rey’s power creep bullshit. Is still fucking bullshit. Nothing got fucking explained and most of the movie was completely fucking pointless.
The entire Finn and Rose subplot was pointless.
Snoke was fucking pointless
Vice Admiral Hondo withholding information was genuinely ridiculous.
SPACE LEIA was just on another level of horse shit.
And I could go on for fucking days.
“The huts had X-Wing parts integrated into them, if memory serves. Luke went there to die, to live out his life. Why would he give himself a way off the planet? The X-Wing was how he arrived, not how he could escape. The thing had been sunk and scrapped for parts. Having a fully functioning way off the planet…how would that scan with his reasons for being there in the first place? Think about it.”
DID YOU MISS THE PART WHERE HE FUCKING LEFT A GOD DAMN MAP IN CASE PEOPLE NEEDED TO FUCKING FIND HIM?
Are you fucking retarded, buddy? What the fuck was the point of not fucking erasing the fucking saved galaxy logs R2 had if he didn’t want to be fucking found. You can’t be that fucking stupid
It’s his fucking droid you fucking moron. He either wipes it’s memory or he takes it with him. If the fucking point of his exile was to never be found. What utter stupidity.
R2 is offline. It doesn’t fucking matter if he’s marooned or not. If his intention was to be hidden for the rest of his life. He does not leave a fucking droid that has the answer to that question.
What the fuck are you going on about? You’re premise is that these characters act like they did before when that’s not fucking true. Especially when it comes to fucking Luke, who out of everyone in the fucking show acts completely out of character and would not treat anyone like a fucking friend. Since he was fucking willing to let everyone fucking die in the hands of the First Order? Are you fucking stupid? Does that fucking sound like the Luke from the OT.
Had it not been for Rey, his sister would have been murdered and he would still be jacking off alien tits for some blue milks. Then only think here that’s hilariously lacking is your ability to comprehend Luke as a character in the OT.
The Luke portrayed in this movie would fucking rip R2 of his memory or turn him off forever.
” premise is that the characters make sense with who they were before”
Oh god. Did we even fucking watch the same god damn film.
What kind of utter stupidity are spewing. Anakin was the child of the fucking force and Luke was his son. And both of them sucked without training. Even Anakin and Luke had to fucking train before any of them where even somewhat capable jedis. This movies picks up where the last one left of and in a matter of a couple of fucking DAYS. She has surpassed Luke after he had trained for months following ESB. That’s garbage fucking writing. Vice Admiral hondo withdrawing fucking information when everyone is fucking desperate for answers and a plan is shitty fucking writing for the sake of pseudo suspense.
Luke dying threw force projection was absolutely fucking moronic. The whole point of his arc in this film was to realize that the Jedi are needed and they will come back. And yet he fucking dies of exhaustion after doing ONE FUCKING THING.
The master Jedi who was brave enough and stubborn enough to have once seen good in the second most evil man in the galaxy trying to fucking murder his best friends son is god damn nonsense.
The whole fucking casino arc was fucking pointless because not only was it prequel levels of bad. And completely fucking derailed the pacing with the most uninteresting and boring characters in the film. But it served as a shitty romantic arc that came out of nowhere and was completely fucking pointless and unwarranted. It would not have existed had Holdo told them that she was fucking planning on evacuating the fucking ship.
Why are people interpreting the end as Luke dying of exhaustion? I saw him catch his breath, become at peace, and choose to become one with the force.
Yoda and Ben both did the same thing. I don’t know that there’s been a Jedi that dies and then disappears. Maybe Vader but that’s just because we don’t even see him fade away.
Now that you mention it – you may have a point or two!!
Don’t forget Maz’s stupid hologram call during a gun fight.
Oh god. I somehow just erased that scene from my brain. Utter horse shit.
Yeah, there was a lot to erase.
SW canon ends with Lucas’ envolvement for me, plus RO
Agreed
I was hoping for a new ESB because it fill that spot in the Disney trilogy but just felt disappointed
I guess I have to just accept Rey is more powerful than any Jedi before
I hate how to make Rey and Kyle “Strong” they have to shit all over the original characters
And walkers in the snow again? Trench battles? Did the solider purposefully say “Salt” just to tell the audience “This isn’t snow!!!”
this !
So incredibly disappointed, pointless is the main word that comes to mind, you could pretty much use the word pointless to describe damn near every part of it. It was just such a letdown, I was actually mad at myself for the fact that I was bored through so much of the middle, BORED AT A STAR WARS MOVIE! That seems impossible to me but the pacing was just so off, I’m just stunned with the direction they have taken this new trilogy.
So sad man… how the HELL did they think any of the decisions they made would go over well?!
Definitely not as good as the hype. Makes the Force Awakens look slick and streamlined. Lots of moments I loved, but a bit of a headscratcher with its Rotten Tomatoes score. Kind of an inverse Justice League scenario.
Contrived opinion just to be contrarian
Because any opinion that doesn’t fully overlap your own couldn’t be valid, right? I’ve had bootleg VHS copy of Empire Strikes back since I was 3. If you were a real Star Wars fan you would have made a pun and said “Forced opinion.”
Took only six words to grt the crisp “little b**ch” insult tossed out. Nice!
I’d been throwing back too many holiday beers. My bad, I take it back! I just love words like contrived and contrarian and it pains me to see them wielded in a sentence both surreptitiously and conspicuously!
All good bro, I know we all love the movies here
Sorry that the phantom menace is better then this film. I mean wasted and trash so many characters in last jedi.
Huh
Can’t believe it.
That you liked TLJ and I consider it on par with BvS
Sure you could, just like all the fans that argue it.
I’m not interested in you debunking why I don’t like it. I didn’t find it enjoyable, the humor was insultingly bad, the CGI was bad, the writing was bad, and their idea of what the force is was bad.
It’s fiction. I’m only as wrong as you are.
Except TLJ didn’t conform with 8 other films before it.
It’s readily available and too accessible. They made force abilities so common place they aren’t interesting.
Strength in the force has always, and canonically, been something to master. Why would a random kid be force pulling brooms if Anakin, the strongest force user to date, wasn’t using outright force abilities as a child? Don’t answer that, it’s rhetorical.
Rey hasn’t had to earn her powers.
Luke force pretending to be Neo and slow motion limbo under lightsabers on Crait was dumb and anticlimactic and as cheesy as any of the worst scenes in BvS.
Here are some other valid complaints:
Your mom jokes have no place in Star Wars.
The only decent duel was between Luke and Rey with sticks.
Even if you can fansplain why the chase plot wasn’t dumb it was still boring.
Carrie Poppins.
The events of the film make what used to be heroes into depressing broken people who’s entire lives have been failures. Last Action Hero syndrome.
Rey didn’t have to pay any price for her foolishness in rushing off to face Snoke.
Chewy wouldn’t eat porgs because he’s smart enough to see they were intelligent.
Luke shouldn’t have shown up to fake fight Kylo with a fake lightsaber Kylo just watched get destroyed.
Luke shouldn’t have showed up to fake fight Kylo, he should have actually done something rather than using force plot devices.
Bad CGI rocks levitating at the end.
The resistance is now the rebellion?
Snoke could predict everything that happened in the film except getting cut in half.
Too many force chats with Rey and Kylo, you couldn’t go five minutes without them holding hands by the fire.
They held hands by the fire…
BB-8 destroys and pilots an AT-ST
THE MOVIE WASNT FUN
Force abilities and force sensitivity are two different things. You liked the movie, that’s okay.
It’ll never be canon for me.
I didn’t have any major problems with Canto Bight. I didn’t like that the Disney films made force abilities easily tapped into. Anakin trained his whole life and could still lose to Obi-wan.
These new characters already seem to have abilities beyond any predecessor and I find that cheap. They don’t feel earned.
That’s my main complaint with Luke’s arc as well. His force manifestation felt like a cop out and I found it anticlimactic. He didn’t take any risk so it made his “redemption” feel cheap.
I don’t interpret Luke’s death as being a consequence of his force projection. Snoke was able to connect Rey and Kylo. I believe Luke could have easily continued to live but became one with the force by will, just like Ben and Yoda.
He realized his usefulness as a human had come to an end and decided to move on while at peace.
He clearly catches his breath and seems fine after ending the force projection.
Based on QGJ and Vader’s death it looks like your body remains if you die of something prior to your consciousness moving on.
I love how you speak with certainty about things that are open to interpretation.
“The effort would kill you” directed at Rey tells us nothing about Luke’s abilities, nothing.
That’s not logic though, it’s speculation.
We clearly see Luke catch his breath and come to peace. You’re creating an analytical argument and basing beliefs off of things that aren’t the same. Luke and Rey are at very different places in their use of the force, if Luke was intended to die of exhaustion the film makers should have shown that rather than him composing himself and staring at the sunset.
That all depends on whether you believe Vader killed Obi-Wan before he passed on. Which is open to interpretation depending on what you see in the special effects.
I see an empty cloak falling. I saw his line about striking him down as a taunt to keep the fight going so Luke can escape. Based on what we know of the force the actual act of being stricken down doesn’t make so Obi-Wan any more powerful.
Well, he said that he went to that island to die. He had been waiting for something before giving himself to the force. I think that he was waiting to perform this last task within the force. I don’t think that was exhaustion that killed him. I think that when looked at the sunset, he thought that he had fulfilled his last mission and he had passed his legacy to another person, so he died in peace.
Same
Also, it’s generally accepted Ben became one with the force just before Vader’s strike.
I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I’m trying to imagine this generation after having watched Empire without having an internet to run to afterwards.
I’m a huge Star Wars fan, i didn’t hate Force Awakens, nor the prequels, nor Rouge One, yet this movie was so disappointing that after seeing it last night I felt indifferent about the future of the movies (something I’ve never felt about a SW movie before). I wanted it to be good, but the director failed the franchise (or at least, he came really close). Here’s what I thought in-depth:
SPOILERS
Pros:
-Lots of Artistic Shots that look amazing
-Poe and Rey become more defined and likable than before
-The Praetorian Guards (They actually do really well in a fight, almost surprising)
-Snoke (Nothing is revealed about his backstory, which is disappointing. However, his power is well established. He makes Rey look like a joke.)
-Luke and Yoda’s Conversation (Pleasant and very honest, the best character interaction of the movie.)
In-between:
-Luke Skywalker (He was really good in the movie, but at times he just doesn’t seem like Luke. He does and says things that are out of character, even if he is a “broken man”.)
-Kylo Ren (Up until the last act, the audience gets a sense that Kylo isn’t as cut clean as they thought, but then he does something that makes all that seem like a waste of time. They really need to give him a new helmet.)
-The Planets (Okay, but nothing very impressive.)
Cons:
-The Pacing (This is the worst pacing i’ve EVER seen in a movie. The beginning has so many jump cuts that it seems like a 5 year-old planned it. One second it’s Luke climbing up a mountain then it’s Kylo in an elevator and then Rey walking up to a tree, all within the span of 3 minutes (not kidding)).
-Leia (How can you fuck up a character this bad? When she used the force to pull herself back into the ship I got the angriest I’ve ever been in a movie theatre before. It was so awful, not only has Leia never done so much as a force push, but surviving the vacuum of space while performing a force pull? No, absolutely not. It felt like a 3rd grade fanfiction writer wrote the scene but hell, the worst prequel moments look like genius compared to Leia’s scene. They had at least 3 opportunities to kill off her character before the next movie, and they choose to take none of them. What a waste.)
-General Hux’s Eyebrows (You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.)
-Phasma & Snoke’s Deaths (In 5 minutes, they established Snoke as the most powerful force user in the galaxy, and then they kill him unceremoniously. Again, it felt like bad fanfic. Phasma on the other hand, was given even less to do in this movie, and after 7 minutes of her appearance, she falls into a burning inferno.)
-Vice Admiral Pink Hair (She was thrown into the movie with no context, didn’t have leadership skills, and did something anyone could have done.)
-Admiral Ackbar (They fucking killed him and then gave his job to the “Vice Admiral”, no class.)
-Yoda (He was good in the movie, but the use of a puppet was out of place for this movie. When the production quality is high, having such a low tech artifact just looks wrong).
-Timeline (This movie takes place over the span of about 18 hours, the shortest timeline of any SW movie to date, and it doesn’t work. The Rey and Luke story isn’t synced with the main story, or at least, it doesn’t feel like it. That seems like it’s supposed to be taking weeks but the main story is only taking hours. It seems unbelievable that everything in the movie happened in only 18 hours. Again, Pacing issues.)
-Rose & the Stupid Animal Subplot (Rose was a terrible character, useless with no good personality. Also, why were there so many fucking animals in the movie? They weighed the plot down, no one cares that the horse dogs got hurt and even though the Crystal foxes did something useful, a better SW solution could be found in 2 minutes (they release a probe that scans for a way out)
Conclusion: If I were you, I wouldn’t pay for this movie, or see it in theatres. It has some cool clips, but it’s really nothing more. I’m worried about the future of SW, this movie comes dangerously close to leaving SW altogether and I hope they reconsider letting Johnson direct the new trilogy, he did a terrible job with this just so that he could make this movie different from before. Disney needs to understand that there’s a balance between new elements and traditional SW, that doesn’t mean cutting off everything that people love about the movies.
3/10, Would not see again.
i dont agree with you cons, are more subjective, not objective at all.
Cool? You’re entitled to your opinion, as i am.
Nop. im just being objective, not giving an opinion at all, As a fan you dont like them, but still those decisions work even if doesnt sattisfy you as a fans. Thats the difference betweena fan and a critic.
You are giving an opinion, because pacing issues and giant time-wasting subplots are big movie issues.
it is not a waste, stw is a tragic-comedy, in that dramatic genre not always the good guy saves the day.. just because you didnt like the miniplot take that doesnt mean it was not good execute, the miniplot works, it gives a sense of reality by not giving the protagonist the goal they pursued. If you werent interested in Finn and rose that just your issue, the story was entertaining, it worked fine. you are just dissapointed cus you wanted a more Luke focus story? or any related info to sattisfy your curiosity? films should never be fan services, any screenwriter knows that his work it to deceive the audience, ang give them what they want when they dont expect it.
SW has NEVER been a tragic comedy, saying that alone shows you don’t know what you’re talking about. The miniplot doesn’t work, it’s just not Star Wars and contributes so little to the overall plot (and the protagonist gets exactly what they wanted in the mini plot, so what are you talking about…?). And this entire new trilogy is fan service. If you really think a director’s main purpose is to deceive the audience, rather than to tell an evolving coherent narrative, then you really don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. I’m not going to argue with you if all your arguments fall apart in 3 seconds kid.
Sorry, but im being honest, im a screenwriter teacher, not a kid. you have not dumb explanation at all, you are full of expectations unfulfilled. Kid do me a favor a go read some books of Robert Mkee, lajos Egri, Shaw or another dramatic writer before starting talking nonsense
or go watch at least Kevin smith review on the last Jedi
Sadly it’s a big dissapointment. A lot of stupid decisions.
That movie was bad
It was fanfuckingtastic, i was shocked at how much I liked it.
Wow! I was blown away! Nailed the action. Nailed the humor. Great surprises. If there was anything missing they can throw it in the comics and I’ll be fine.
Terrible.
I’ll probably get criticized for this, but…
Definitely lean closer to the “hate it” side of things. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it.
Since I’m sure we’ve all seen it and I don’t need to include a spoiler alert…
1) I am perplexed at the number of people saying that this movie didn’t have enough humor, since it opened with a comedic sequence in which Poe makes General Hux look like a caricature, like some moronic cartoon villain from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. I actually didn’t have a problem with most of the humor in the movie, but when it was too much, it was really too much.
2) That Leia scene is atrocious… She would not just float back to the ship. Why not just kill her off? One of the biggest problems with this movie is that it has zero courage to kill anyone meaningful. Leia? Nope, save her in a preposterous way. Finn? Nope, he’s going to be saved by Rose. And nope, Rose doesn’t die either. Sure, let’s kill Snoke, since nobody knows a thing about him — and we really don’t care about him either. This is like “The Walking Dead,” in its insistence upon keeping important people alive.
3) In keeping with point #2… Luke dies in the most illogical and anticlimactic way. He dies because he’s… Tired? He strained himself using the Force? Then why not simply GO to Kylo Ren and fight him, if you’re going to die anyway? Wouldn’t that be more epic than a confusing moment in which Luke looks younger and the movie expects us to believe it’s actually him in the flesh, when we know that he looked way older just a few minutes beforehand? It was distracting, confusing, and highly illogical. And it took away from the weight of the moment. Imagine how epic that fight could have been… Instead, Kylo stood around talking to a hologram. And then, Luke disappears, and is “dead.”
4) In keeping with #3… This movie has an irritating insistence upon anticlimax. It has so many fake-outs about Rey’s parents — literal, gimmicky fake-outs — and then tells us that her parents were nobodies. Thanks. It keeps leading us to believe there will be some shifting of the tectonic plates, an unholy alliance of Rey and Kylo Ren… And then OF COURSE that doesn’t happen. Nothing about this is surprising, and to suggest that this non-twist is somehow a twist is to enable lazy screenwriters and executives who were leading us on the whole time. The only time during the entire movie that I was surprised was when Kylo killed Snoke. BUT… Since Snoke was a non-character, I had zero emotional reaction beyond a split-second sensation of surprise.
5) The more you watch “The Last Jedi,” the more it feels like Disney is stalling until we can get to the third movie. Didn’t know what to do with Snoke, so get him out of there. Didn’t know what to do with Finn, so let’s send him on some video game side mission to a Casino World where we can inject heavy-handed social commentary. Oh, and let’s add a spunky and moderately annoying love interest. We need to do something with Rey and Kylo Ren. Well, we also need to get Luke back in the game. Let’s pretend he’s training Rey, when they actually do very little training of any sort. As for Kylo Ren… Hmm… Let’s double-down on his conflicted nature. Let’s spend this whole movie hinting at him changing sides, only to let you know at the end that of course the third movie is going to be a fight between Kylo and Rey. So the big developments you expected to see in this movie… Wait until the next movie. We promise we’ll deliver.
I didn’t like “The Force Awakens.” Rather than being a sequel and changing the game, it spent its time paying homage to the (superior) originals. Supposedly, Rian Johnson was insistent upon breaking away from “Star Wars” orthodoxy with this movie. The funny thing is that while everyone sings his praises for doing so, I’m sitting here wondering whether he could have made a more predictable, orthodox film. As far as I’m concerned, Rian Johnson has done nothing to reinvent “Star Wars.” He’s done nothing to make a truly inventive, surprising movie. He simply made a sequel that wastes time until we get to the final installment of this unnecessary trilogy.
I agree with most of this. The movie was so caught up in subverting expectations it stopped trying to be a cohesive or entertaining Star Wars movie.
Simple what needs to be done fire rian and Kathleen Kennedy.
Too many jokes.
Too long. After Snoke died, I was just waiting for the movie to be over. But it kept going on and on and on and on.. Speaking of which, why did Snoke have to go out like a bitch? And very much like Sidious, too. At the end of the day, he was such a rip off of Sidious, and he will not be remembered. Can we have a big bad be an actual big bad?
Well I didn’t like that Snoke went out so soon, but I liked the fact that this time around the apprentice didn’t turn good and actually killed the master and now is the big bad guy. For all the missteps the movie had, I liked Kylo Ren progression and seems to truly embrace the dark side. let’s see how his arc ends
Which makes no sense seeing as they showed more conflict in Kylo than we ever saw in Vader
Not exactly the same, Vader wanted to get rid of the emperor and been the boss for himself, but never did it. Kylo was basically bullied by Snoke, and when he said he was just a parody of Vader (and Kylo wanted to be him more than anything) that was just the last straw for him and did what Vader never could -kill his master.
The irony here is that, in a way, he is now a “better” sith because he fulfilled the ” sith rule” of killing the master
Uh, Vader kills Palpatine
I was referring to the point before he turns to the good side. In Episode III he proposed doing that to Padme, and in ESB to Luke. This was also addressed in comics, novels and videogames, but he never took the final step to do that
I think he had no reason to when he learned Padme died. Once he saw his son lived he was ready to defeat the emperor and take his place.
Yeah, but he never did, thus never truly becoming a “complete” Sith. Until the very last moment he was defending the Emperor against Luke, telling him to let the emperor do his thing and joining them.
Vader killed the Emperor in the end, yes, but in order to save his son, not because he wanted to take his place. That’s why I say that, as a sith, Kylo Ren went a step forward in comparison to Vader, which IMO worked perfectly in the film as we didn’t get the cliché bad-guy-turns-good-to-save-another and played very well with the spectators’ expectations and with the characters’ expectations in the movie
Saw it Thursday night and liked it, then saw it again Friday and loved it. Biggest issue was I thought there was a little too much humor and the first half was a little slow, but I still loved it. I personally put it right behind The Empire Strikes Back and this is coming from someone who saw the original Star Wars in the theaters back in 1977.
Def agree with that. It seems the past couple have leaned a little more into the humor whereas the actors’ (Harrison Ford) charisma in the past was what naturally filled the scenes with humor in the past
Really really reallly good. Continually surprised at how much of an homage these new SWs feel like while pushing the envelope with new character and expanding the possibilities with the story…very satisfying movie
It felt like it was taking shots at the homage of the old films fact and taking shots at the fan base saying it doesn’t matter and everything was pointless from the originals.
Yeah, everything in this film felt more like the characters from the previous films are fuckups who have pretty much ruined the universe for everyone else.
I totally see that POV. One thing I love about movies/ fiction books/ any type of narrative is that if it’s told well, I can get behind a shocking story. This is a direction in the SW canon that IS new, but it’s their right to create the story however they want to. I found Rey’s questions believable and representative of Anakin’s…I thought the rebellion was made personal and it really just geled for me.
Wait… HOW was this film such an homage to the original characters and films?! HOW?! I am SERIOUSLY ASKING.
So, I get it. I really do understand what I’m guessing your perspective, but just the very inclusion in such a significant role of Leia continuing to lead the resistance and the continued evolving meaning of Luke’s journey/ power to me were homages. Also C-3PO and Chewey etc…to me, they pay homage by building out new stories and surprising the audience with what the established narratives can mean for the future. The plain concepts of choice and good v evil remain, we just find there is even more nuance/ tension in beloved characters than we probably originally thought.
Basically they were in it
I thought it was great with the exception of a few things I found frustrating. I specifically was disappointed with the build up to who Snoke was for him to mean nothing, Rey’s parents build up for them to be nobody, and Phasma’s hype for her to end up being disposable.
They basically screwed most of the villains up and didn’t kill any of the new characters that don’t fit into the film like finn would of been perfect right there to end him. Luke also was messed up.
phasma has always been disposable, but better that the dumb troopers of the orginal trilogy, why so much hype with phasma?, Bobba Fett it is worst and people love him
It was great, can’t wait to see it again!
I loved it. The Last Jedi is my favorite Star Wars, movie! It is also in my top 5 all-time favorite movies ever! And Kylo Ren and Rey vs the Royal Guards was my all-time favorite lightsabor fight scene ever!
It looked like a behind the scenes stunt choreography session
it is excelent, with an objective point of view its a masterpiece, no plot holes. But as a fan i have to say im feeling ussattisfied.. kind of dissapointed I wanted more luke, some optimism, wanted to see him in combat. And they still arent giving us answer at all wich leaves me frustraded, I loved the film but at the same time im angry, fan expectations not fullfilled, and we all know why.
No plot holes. Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you and your bullshit.
i dont see you giving the plot holes
No plot holes?
name them. I wonder if people really know what a plot hole means to begin with.
Plot holes aren’t really the film’s main problem, but there’s at least one.
Luke “shows up” to fight Kylo Ren holding the lightsaber Kylo Ren just watched get destroyed.
Snoke being all seeing but not being able to see the saber about to kill him.
The first order not being able or willing to hyperspace in front of the resistance.
The first order still striking the resistance ship even though they were “out of range” plus, how could the resistance get “out of range” to begin with? If they were in range and had less fuel and resources than the FO then it makes no sense the FO couldn’t just catch up, additionally, why would a ship that advanced have such a steep fall off on its range? They were able to attach a base from orbit…
1.Luke “shows up” to fight Kylo Ren holding the lightsaber Kylo Ren just watched get destroyed.
-Thats not a plot hole, Luke used a Sith technique called Force phantom
http://starwars.wikia.com/w…
That technique need a sacrifice, Luke already knew he may ended killed by using it, as it requires a lot of vitality.
Luke ultimate goal was to stop Kylo from killing the resistance, he didnt want to kill kylo, and actually he could have do it, as this technique is not a simple hologram but a manifestation of reality, if the phantom gets killed the user gets killed too, Luke commited sacrifice just as obiwan, but he said something different, he said that kylo will not get rid of him even if he kills him. (luke may appear to him again)
2.Snoke being all seeing but not being able to see the saber about to kill him.
Kylo is really powerful, Snoke was after him for some serious reason, as he saw potential and lot of raw power, but Kylo got weaker when he started to have doubts and calls to the light, he had struggles, thats why his power on the dark side got weaker and weaker, that why he was defeated by Rey. But remember, the reason he went to the dark side was because his parents didnt took care of him, intead they gave him to luke, he has been feeling betrayed all his life, he hates traitors. He hates luke. When he met Rey he felt a connection with her, he trusted her, and he is having feelings for her (passion stregths the conecction to the dark side actually) But when he founds out Snoke betrayed him and Rey, he saw who hes real enemy is: Snoke. SO then he stayed in focus again, and just like rey did to kylo in in STW FAW, he kept Snoke out of his head, and something more, he deceived him, letting him know only that he was going to kill “his true enemy” The student overcame the teacher.
3.The first order not being able or willing to hyperspace in front of the resistance.
-actually there are many plausable reasons, to travel hyper you need lot of resources, aint something you just do ( it was stated in the film), and to get up front you need to do a 360 turn and travel lot of distances just to get in front of them,(actually there have never be an explanation on how it works, but they never have done it on short distances, and maybe is because its not possibe to turn so fast at lightspeed. they always have done it to go front. they would loose lot of power actually, the first order dont do things carelessly, they saw his best option was to pushed them to loose gas, And they knew they already won.
4.The first order still striking the resistance ship even though they were “out of range” plus, how could the resistance get “out of range” to begin with? If they were in range and had less fuel and resources than the FO then it makes no sense the FO couldn’t just catch up, additionally, why would a ship that advanced have such a steep fall off on its range? They were able to attach a base from orbit..
-Snoke was the one pulling the trigger, he set a scenario to get Luke and use Rey. The film started as they were pushing them to keep running until get out of gas. they could have finished the assault for sure, sending all ships they got, but they already won and Snoke need it that situation as bait for luke, Snoke was the big manipulator of that film, I dont think we may really get rid of snoke as JJ abrams and Rian are great deceivers, but let see…
Only your response to my last point is demonstrated in the film.
watch Kevin smith review
The star wars holiday special was better than this garbage fest. Lol
Meh, after the prequels and then TFA I lost interest in the movies. Not even worth my time watching them for free.
Great Production, Direction, VFX, and cinematography but not as much fun as The Force Awakens. Also lot of original writing and material unlike The Force Awakens.
6.5/10
Too much Disney antics but much improvement from the Force Awakens. 4/5 Death Stars.
A second viewing is essential. Unpacking the decisions made by characters reveals a heart and a life behind this peculiar and seemingly nose-thumbing entry. While it may be a weaker sky-walker story it is undoubtedly the best or among the best storytelling in this long-bloated universe. Cuts to the quick. Really knows that bravery and stupidity ride a fine line in this saga and imbues every last inch of the characters and story with that gonzo pulpy dimestore paperback sci-fi Star Wars has built itself on. Accept the story as is and experientially many gripes wash away. Go to see familiar characters choose their own destiny, stick around for the fever-pitch canon-bending fanboy discussion.
I really liked the film. but it was obviously a transition film where all the relationships are completely defined in order to give us the climax which will be the next film. All the answers to Rey’s questions which are the same as ours will be answered in episode IX. I’m sure that there will be a lot of surprises un the next film.
It impossible to please everybody. So it is normal that some won’t like it. Anyway, even if people don’t like it, it is only a movie, so there is no need for people to be angry or upset about it.
Stop trying to look like me
Trying to look like you? I would stop looking like you if I knew who you were.
I was talking about our pictures
Maybe I’m The force Awakens and you are a new hope or maybe it is vice-versa.
We might disagree about Batman movies but we agree on this.
I am happy tht they did not copy the Empire Strikes Back,.however I think the film is a beautifully shot but well made mess in many ways. I can appreciate an attempt to deconstruct George Lucas’s archetype characters but it feels like it was at the expense of those same longtime characters developed traits and in order to give the audience some shock value,…it seemed to go too far! The quality of the storytelling is really good but the story itself is a disappointment because it feels like the decisions that the characters make do not make any logical sense within the story itself and also dont match up with their known character traits. YES ITS AN EXCITING AND WELL DIRECTED MOVE,. but the entire “Casino planet” subplot is done very cheesy and very “prequels” in it feel. Finn and Rose get to teh casino they start acting like 5 yr old children in a toy store. And the and I dont mind Luke feeling guilty about Kylo Ren but once he had been told just how bad things had gotten and realized that HE was one of only a small group of people who could help,.he would have simply pulled his old ship out of the water and flown to some type of rescue himself PHYSICALLY ,..and not relied on projecting himself using the force. It just feels very much out of character for him. Having Luke disappear at the end seems like a move to turn him into what i am calling SPACE GANDALF for the next movie! IM GOING TO USE THE EXPRESSION “SIT ON A ROCK AND DIE”,.AN INSULT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE,.!LOL!
I keep reading articles on why the Rotten Tomatoes audience score is so bad…some of the excuses I’ve heard so far: 1. Star Wars fans are just pissed that it’s different and automatically hate on it (but they will come around eventually. Empire Strikes back wasn’t well liked either initially), 2. The RT site was sabotaged by a hacker, 3. A bunch of sexist white guys hate that the film is so multicultural and stars a woman, 4. People say there shouldn’t be so much humor even though the originals had humor (so your criticism is stupid), 5. The people that hate it are old and don’t like change (aka you are probably racist).
I’m still waiting for someone to just come out and tell the truth. The real reason why the audience score is 55%…is because people know when they see a bad movie and this one fucking SUCKED! LMAO!
