Black Panther is now the fourth highest grossing comic book adaptation at the domestic box office. The $16.3M it earned on Friday raises its North American total to $451.7M. That puts it ahead of The Dark Knight Rises ($448.1M) on the all-time domestic box office rankings for comic book movies.

The chief Feigebot here at Superhero News, abkinxoc (who I wouldn’t call a Marveltard because it’s clear he’s never read a comic in his life), would tell you that it’s a global market and that worldwide, not domestic, matters.

Marveltards will say anything. BO performance is all that matters for these people, and they often leave out the inflation, unless it suits their condition, of course. The Snyder diehards are more consistent.

Yeah, at this point BO is merely for petty bragging rights. When a Fast and Furious movie racks in big money perhaps we should all reconsider paying attention to how much money a movie makes.

will never understand why this character is so hyped up. Its not like its Batman or Spiderman or even the MCU’s main dudes like Iron Man and Cap. Speaking of popularity, considering what the superhero climate is like now where a movie like this can make so much freaking bank, it makes me wonder just how well the next Batman movie will do considering he is arguably the most popular comic book character of all time. Thats assuming its really good of course

It’s because he’s Black even though we already had the blade movies. Also, diversity is a big deal these days. That’s why I believe WB’s has to do a Blue Beetle movie. A Mexican teenage hero that’s like Spiderman and Iron Man combined. Easy money.

First leading Black superhero to be brought into the MCU (after 10 years of the franchise) therefore there’s a large audience of demographic of African – Americans/Australians/Canadians etc to be served. Larger targeted audience + the already loyal fans of Marvel being brought in = much more cash funds.
Not only that but it was also shown in Civil War that he was physically equal to the white boys like Cap and Bucky thus there was an increase of interest with comic nerds and the others thinking, “who is this guy?” further leading to more hype for his solo film.
And to add onto that, it was a pretty great film. Not close to Logan or TDK level, but overall a pretty great film as far as CBM’s go.

Speaking of Batman, of course a great Batman film will bring in the cash funds. The only hindrance will be the perception of the DCEU brand thus many people ignoring checking out the film.

Have you seen Dunkirk yet? I thought it was incredible. And I would consider it a better film than TDKR.

It is a film about WW2 involving the British and French at the beaches of Dunkirk. Black people wouldn’t be a high percentage of the casting if accuracy was a concern.
Correct me if I’m wrong but at the beaches of Dunkirk a majority of the troops were English, Scotish and Welsch… Minority troops were a low percentage if any at that particular event. Although black troops and other minority’s helped in battle elsewhere during the war.
