The backlash was overwhelmingly not racist. Idk why people keep perpetuating the idea that she suffered endless racism when that actually never happened. Guess it’s just to legitimize her victimhood, which grants her hero status in the eyes of the mainstream media.

I agree with that, but I also think many of these fans are still extremely overreactive and hateful and hyperbolic.
Like, I can understand not being a fan of Rose or Jar Jar, but to constantly harass and berate the actor and tell them they ruined your childhood is nuts. I wasn’t that into either character, but the level of dramatics I’ve seen from people getting upset over them over the years has been hysterical. Neither ‘ruined my childhood’. lol ;p

Are they exaggerating? Of course… But to be specific, are they actually racist? No, I’ve actually never seen anyone say one racist thing about her. Then again, I don’t particularly follow these people’s social media, nor am I active on Twitter, but I have seen videos on YT debunking the assertion that there was a racist epidemic.
Again, it’s totally fair to say she’s gotten loads of utter bs her way. I’m just saying, almost none of it was truly racist in intent. What also bothers me is how the MM constantly brings this up as if she’s a “survivor” or something, but they were completely silent when it came to people like Hayden… pretty sure cause he’s a dude. And to be quite honest here, I have never taken online harassment seriously. I know that may come across as cold or ignorant to some, but seriously… If you don’t like what people say on the internet, don’t use the internet. It’s that simple.
It doesn’t justify the behavior of childish fans… it just means that for the most part, it’s really inconsequential.

100% agree. It had nothing to do with race for me. It had everything to do with the character being the most irritating, inconsequential part of the film, with the most hypocritical motivations. Not to mention her entire presence undoes Finn’s character journey from the last film. He was her Robin in this film. He just followed her along.
Finn had a heroic moment of sacrifice which would have completed his journey of ‘terrified defector’ to ‘heroic savior’ but Rose stole that from him and justified it with the most laughable, backwards thinking ‘motto’ I’ve ever heard.
