Walt Disney announced this morning that Jaume Collet-Serra’s live-action adaptation of the popular Disney theme park ride “The Jungle Cruise” has been moved from Oct. 11, 2019 to July 24, 2020. That gets the Dwayne Johnson/Emily Blunt action comedy out of the way of a bunch of another family fare (The Addams Family, Are You Afraid of the Dark? And the Tom Hanks-as-Mister Rogers flick You Are My Friend) and positions it as potentially the last biggie of the summer 2020 season. This also puts Disney’s post-Star Wars and post-Avengers slate slightly more into focus.
They have a bunch of theoretical “Marvel movie” or “Disney live-action movie” offerings slotted for 2020, but thus far the only named titles are Mulan on March 27, Maleficent 2 on June 19 and now Jungle Cruise on July 24. They already moved Indiana Jones to July 7, 2021, and that is (understandably) their last official “dated” movie. And this also doesn’t account for any moves related to big Fox releases, as it’s already known that Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile will open not on Dec. 20, 2019 (against Walt Disney’s Star Wars IX) but Oct. 2, 2020.

Just put a couple out each year. 3 at the most. 1 every 5-6 months (of good to high quality) and fans won’t get bored or impatient.

As long as the movies are good I don’t care how many they release a year (within reason). It feels like Marvel Studios has a great creative philosophy right now, they got over the hurdle of clueless business men trying to dictate what the films should be and now they’re letting the actual creatives have full creative control.
This whole ‘superhero fatigue’ fallacy is pure nonsense spouted by people who truly don’t understand that all films are about extraordinary people in extraordinary situations, be it a Cop, a Lawyer, a scientist, a mother or a father. etc…
Marvel in particular are very aware that there is no such genre as ‘Superhero’ (studios that try to make just a ‘superhero film’ end up making garbage). Captain America 2 is a political thriller, Ant-man is a Heist comedy, Guardians of the galaxy is a Space Opera, Black Panther is a Monarchical Drama, Homecoming is a Coming of Age comedy-drama… Now look at DC and Fox’s X-men, what the fuck genre is BvS or X-men Apocalypse? Answer: none. They’re just a scatterbrained series of superficial events with no real identity
