Warner Bros. is encouraged by the success of Aquaman, but not in every way fans might have hoped. Topping $1 billion at the global box office is great, but it doesn’t make the studio any more eager to jump back into the shared universe game. WB may be happy enough with Aquaman 2 and other standalone projects.

I wish people high up at WB visited comment sections like this. Mr. Emmerich’s words, IMO, are that of a tone deaf idiot that failed upwards at WB.
I am trying to find a good analogy to put this into words.
Let’s say WB catered birthday parites and someone wanted a chocolate cake for their birthday party.
What WB did was start out with a good recipe, then hired a chef that wanted to make this different kind of unsweetened chocolate cake with strong ingredients. Realizing that the chef WB hired likes to make niche recipes with an acquired tastes, they bring in some quick fix chef that just puts a ton of suger icing on it.
People at the party get mad as hell. Some like the weird niche cake, others hate it, some just appreciate what the chief was trying to do. No one really liked the icing, but thought it was sweet, most a little too sweet. But love it or hate it they still wanted to know what kind of cake it was originally going to be.
So then WB, not on purpose mind you, has a pie for the party. They really didn’t intend for the pie to be that special, but they knew it was a good pie chef. People love the pie. They think the pie is good, not the best, not what they asked for, but they like it and eat all the pie.
SO IN THEIR INFINITE F’N WISDOM, WB says, “Well, I think it’s obvious that people don’t like chocolate cake at their birthday parties. We are going to focus on a party service that only serves pies. Because we support our chefs and making pie for a birthday party was a great idea.”
Meanwhile everyone is like, “MFer, we still want the GD chocolate cake. You never gave us a damn chocolate cake to begin with! How in the blue hell are you going to say we don’t want it when you served us some BS!?!?! And WTF you mean you support the chef? YOU KICKED HIS ASS OUT THE KITCHEN!”
This is how I sum this BS up.
After all of this, after everything that happened at WB they are STILL lost in the sauce. They are just throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks. They are and continue to be reactionary. If Shazam performs poorly, you can damn sure expect another complete 180.

Wow. Exactly. The answer shouldn’t be at one extreme or another ( shared universe or no shared universe), but how you BUILD it. Another point I don’t see a whole lot, is that, each of these characters is in part who they are…because of their interactions, even if occasional, with other characters.
Look at the source material: they grow in many ways, one of them is being in contact with one another. So by saying, in essence, they won’t meet, well to me that’s not getting the characters as they are in the comics, who either work with or againts one another, argue over their methods, find common ground, etc. I’m sure they’ll make good and maybe great movies, but yeah they just decided we don’t like chocolate cake…that’s not it at all.
