Marvel Studios is now 20 for 20 when it comes to topping the domestic office on opening weekend. Ant-Man and the Wasp won the weekend easily with $76M in North America. It also improved upon the opening of the first Ant-Man ($57.2M) by 33%.
Globally, Ant-Man and the Wasp opened at $161M. If that sounds a little low, it’s because many markets are getting the film later thanks to the World Cup. The Marvel sequel will do just fine once those remaining markets finally get to see it.

Remind me, is Lord Zedd in this one? Or Divatox? I would really like to see both on the big screen but I realize that’s a little crazy to expect from one movie.

I think it’s great that Gerber had all his excuses covered in this article (and the projections article from June 14) for a movie that didn’t need any. World Cup? Check. “Solid growth”? Check. “Very” profitable? Check. “Disney is aware of the smaller market for Ant-Man”? Check. “This is not Black Panther”? Check.
Isn’t it kind of pathetic how hard he’s trying to explain to everyone that this is not a commercial failure even though I highly doubt any of the regulars (all five of them) said it would be?
