Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will reportedly appear as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie, which we should learn more about at DC Fandom this weekend.
You heard that right.
Vanity Fair reports the two actors will reprise their iconic roles as Ezra Miller travels through parallel dimensions in his upcoming movie, which is set for release in 2022. The film, helmed by IT director Andy Muschietti, will reportedly be an adaptation of the 2011 Flashpoint series.
Muschietti said Affleck will play an important part of the movie, building on the relationship we saw blossom in Justice League.
“The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” Muschietti told Vanity Fair. “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”
Vanity Fair’s report doesn’t comment on whether we’ll see an intersection with Robert Pattinson’s Batman, who is appearing in a solo film directed by Matt Reeves. Expect The Flash to bridge a divide not unlike Sony’s animated Into the Spider-Verse, which seamlessly introduced a multiverse concept and brought different versions of Spider-Man into one film.
Opinions on Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman have been mixed since he donned the cowl in Batman v Superman. Whether you like him or not, he’s set to become the dark knight one last time. At least, we think it’s for one last time.
