Black Panther has moved into the top five highest-grossing superhero movies worldwide. The film has hauled in $1.094B at the global box office, passing The Dark Knight Rises ($1.085B) yesterday. The four films ahead of Black Panther were also produced by Marvel Studios, meaning the studio now owns every slot in the top five.
The Ryan Coogler-directed film now only trails Captain America: Civil War ($1.15B), Iron Man 3 ($1.22B), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.41B), and The Avengers ($1.52B). Black Panther should be able to top Iron Man 3 as the highest-grossing standalone superhero movie before taking a possible run at the Avengers films.

NOW I UNDERSTAND as why you’d see this as propaganda, I’m not denying that it isn’t. I’m simply pointing out the FACT that BETWEEN NOW and the release of IF, how could Infinity War possibly NOT make that list above^^^ It’s pretty much guaranteed based on hype.

Unlike you, I have nothing to hide, which means my comments are public. More time reading and less time reacting would’ve told you that there’s a context to what I wrote. The majority of regulars here understand where I was going with it.

If you feel compelled to sit around for that number and throw it in my face when it happens (as if I give a damn how much money it makes) then that’s fine, it’s your life. Gerber’s going to post it five days before it happens anyway, because that’s what people like him do.

Who talks about any of them anymore? Thor: Ragnarok came out four months ago, was declared the greatest MCU film of all time, made huge bank, and just came out on home media. Did anyone even notice?
It happens with all of them. That’s the audience they attract, those with short attention spans.

This is a strong point. The only one that really gets talked about still I’d say is Civil War and that’s really only due to it introducing MCU’s Spidey, BP, and the general audience wondering what the fallout means for Infinity War.

I still hear about Civil War, and Avengers 1 is always given whenever superhero films are talked about. I agree with Thor, but that’s not in the top 5.
My point is that how did a film that made that much money have so little impact even in the general public. It’s never in the discussion of the top (in terms of quality) Marvel. With money like that you’d expect some to remember it.

Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time by a large margin. Is anyone even aware that this movie exists?
That’s my point. A lot of movies make huge money and are forgotten because they weren’t that good to begin with. When I go to an MCU movie I have a good time for two hours and life goes on. Disney in particular makes a lot of films like that.

Deserving or not, it’s a damn impressive accomplishment. I didn’t care for IM3, AOU, and I still hold true to my opinion that Black Panther is being severely overrated. But give credit where it’s due. Marvel has created a near fail safe cinematic franchise.

In detail? Alright, here it goes (full thoughts wouldn’t fit in a comment but I’ll give it a go).
After seeing BP in Civil War, I was eagerly anticipating his solo film. The trailers were good, not great in my opinion, but they did enough to get my butt in that seat. After seeing the film with a few friends opening weekend I left the movie with a new favorite MCU character. However, the movie itself was much like the trailers. Good, not great. That’s my best and most honest reaction. My friends felt the same way. We just kind of looked at each other when it ended and said “Yeah, that was alright. Not deserving of the hype.”
My favorite things in the film?
– Black Panther the character. Loved Boseman’s portrayal of him, and I still absolutely dig the accent.
– Killmonger as an antagonist. He’s my favorite “villain” since the Winter Soldier in Cap 2.
– The orchestral soundtrack. This should be universally agreed upon.Now the more important list of things I didn’t care for or took issue with.
– The pacing. Some parts just dragged on and completely took me out of the film. It jumped from a huge action sequence to a slowed down conversational piece one too many times.
– The social media/meme references. Just cheesy and unnecessary, but when you’re trying to appeal to children too, I sort of get it.
– Scenes that didn’t need to be in the film. The one that I questioned right away after the film ended was the whole “Sneakers” bit. Poor one liner that was meant for kids, and it had absolutely ZERO effect on the rest of the film. If those “shoes” actually made a difference in a scene, I’d give it some slack, but this was the definition of shoe-horning in a one-liner.
– The spotty CGI/the end sequence. *Spoilers obviously* The rhinos, oh God this was so ridiculous. People in my theater literally laughed out loud when the rhinos came on the battlefield. The train sequence for the final battle was rough on the CGI. As much as I LOVED Wonder Woman, the CGI in this scene was comparable to the lasso battle scene in WW. Just too digital to ever believe.
– Character development. Killmonger could’ve used more backstory, but I’m good with what we got. However what I’m not good with is the skipping over of developing relationships between T’Challa and those closest to him. Zuri was the father figure, I get that. But I drew that from assumption and piecing the little things together. That relationship deserved more screen time. I also would’ve loved to have seen more from the “leaders” of Wakanda and what they thought of T’Challa as most didn’t seem too upset over Killmonger taking over. Also, was Ross really a necessary character that deserved as much screen time as he got?
– The death of Klaw. Absolutely was loving his character and then he’s gone. They “killed” him off so randomly. Hated how they ditched that character in the way they did.Obviously there’s always more to talk about, and it’s all opinion, but I really feel that this movie is more 7.5/10 than the near perfect billion dollar film it’s being portrayed as.

BP is the best mcu movie in ages, and is everything just because is not filled with artificial jokes every 10 seconds, is a decent movie, not great, but no good mcu movie is good in film standards yet
