Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well underway with every film in it, save for one, already having been released, filmed, or at least gone into production. The only Phase Three film yet to go before cameras is Captain Marvel, which will do so early next year to be ready for its March 2019 release. Despite being the last film of its respective Phase to go into production, Captain Marvel will play a critical role in setting up Untitled Avengers, the 22-movie conclusion that hits theaters just two months later in May 2019.

During a recent interview with IndieWire, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked how the future of the MCU could be shaped by the clear demand for more female-led superhero franchises, in front of and behind the camera, as evidenced by the success of Wonder Woman earlier this year. Feige said that there are a lot of discussions, but that Marvel isn’t ready to go public with any post-Phase Three plans just yet (beyond the already announced Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3).
