“But here’s the thing, if you were just going to do a straight adaptation of the comics, her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern. And obviously, that’s not what we want to do,” Perlman said of Carol’s origin story. “There’s a lot of reinvention that needs to happen. And also, she’s her own person and she’s a great character. We have to be aware of what’s happened in other Marvel film and makes sure that her particular storyline is unique and fun and also fits in within this world that’s going on at the same time. It’s a little bit of an interesting story gauntlet. It’s been good to have a partner. It’s been an incredible experience. If we can pull it off it could be an incredibly important but also really fun and kick-ass superhero film.”
Captain Marvel’s origin is being changed for the movie because of Green Lantern

So what will they re-name her? The name “Captain Marvel” is very similar to the original Captain Marvel from DC, and obviously that’s not what they want to do.

They won’t rename her, bc DC’s Captain Marvel movie/character will go by Shazam

After this you can bet a Nova movie will never be made…

Which would be nonsensical. He’s much better fit as a supporting character.

I love how he flat out acknowledges how similar Captain Marvel’s origin is to GL, and then basically states they’ll be completely straying from that in the movie. Surprise surprise, another Marvel film straying from the source material.

“But here’s the thing, if you were just going to do a straight adaptation of the comics, her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern. And obviously, that’s not what we want to do,” of course not, because then the rip off would be evident for everyone to see.

You should be kidding, because Hal Jordan first appeared in comics a decade before captain marvel. Also, DC had a Captain Marvel before Marvel did.
