Disney is holding firm on its decision to fire director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn met with The Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn yesterday, but the filmmaker will not return to the franchise he helped launch. According to Variety, Marvel Studios supports Disney’s final decision.
“The potential rehiring of Gunn was always a longshot. It’s no surprise that Disney stands by its decision.”
When I read this crap (and I don’t know why I do, boredom comes to mind), I feel like Gerber is just dying to s*** on Disney for this decision, but can’t because that would squash his early showing pass and any potential job prospects at the Mouse House. As I’ve stated before Gerber’s been pretty vocal about anything that challenges the narrative that the MCU is the greatest thing since sliced bread but has been somewhat toned down/borderline muted in reference to this situation.
To all the MCU Feigebots out there I say this: If the termination of James Gunn upsets you then this is your moment. No Captain Marvel, no Avengers 4, no Spider-Man 2, no Guardians 3. Tell Disney how you feel with your wallet. DC and Star Wars fans (you know, those “harmfully divisive” fanbases Gerber called out) have done it and both WB and Disney paid the price, now it’s your turn.
Oh wait, I forgot, you’re just a bunch of sheep who are still talking about how much a two-and-a-half-year-old movie sucks to cover for all the hole punching going into Infinity War right now. You guys do love your Flavors of the Month. I imagine by the time Ant-Man and The Wasp comes out on Digital you all will have forgotten James Gunn exists, so by all means, let’s go back to business as usual.
I do hope Disney feels it in their wallet, and with who chooses not to be a part of their movies. And I hope they adjust as a company because of it. But I still want to enjoy the MCU going forward.
