“Well, I was not happy with Mantis’ portrayal,” Englehart said. “That character has nothing to do with Mantis. I will say that I liked the film quite a bit overall, they’re doing good stuff and I enjoyed my night at the movies so long as I turned my brain off to the fact that that’s not Mantis up there. I really don’t know why you would take a character who is as distinctive as Mantis is and do a completely different character and still call her Mantis. That I do not know.”
No matter the character, they’re either a smart ass or a comedy sidekick… or Captain America

After they took the most dangerous woman in the universe & turned her into love interest wimp + Turned an unstoppable killing machine into a dumb comedy sidekick, what did you expect. Don’t get me wrong: I liked/enjoyed both vol 1 & vol 2, but to say the films are “based on” DnA’s run is an insult. The only things matching are names.
Wazzapova
So true. No way she would of backed down to Gamora in that one scene.
Wazzapova
I stand corrected. No way she would have backed down to Gamora in that one scene.
Nahuel Benvenuto
well, this is usual for the mcu

I totally agree with him. This version was NOTHING, aside from appearance, even close to the Mantis in the comic books. NO WAY she would have backed down to Gamora in that one scene. Additionally, it seems Marvel prefers to cast Asian actors in comedic roles (GOTG:V2, Dr. Strange, Spider-Man Homecoming trailers). And the non-comedic roles of Asian characters don’t get portrayed by Asian actors! Hmm 🤔

SHADE thrown! LOL In the DC Films vs. Marvel Films war, one of Marvel’s biggest advantages over DC, is the amount of characters they can alter, without anybody really caring. Good for him, for standing up for such an obscure character, like Mantis. Drax making fun of how ugly she was, while she just kinda took it, was cringe-worthy.

B-but, but, WE ARE GROOT!
Trevor Philips
I know why she was on there……….marketing for China.
Awpwn
Pom Klementieff isn’t Chinese though… She is Canadian, and her parents are Korean and French-Russian.
Trevor Philips
Oh shit, really? I’m so use to that type of marketing (ex. Transformers 4, Independence Day 2, etc..) that I didn’t even know.
cjflan32
Haven’t seen the movie, nor have I ever heard of Marvel’s version of Mantis, but this doesn’t surprise me at all.
No Marvel fan who has ever read a Marvel comic book can be honest and say the majority of these films have any accuracy to the source material.
Trevor Philips
Still won’t forgive them for what they did to Ultron.
