Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 delivered a very big weekend for Marvel Studios in North America. The film officially earned $146,510,104 in its domestic opening weekend. That figure shows tremendous growth in brand interest with a 55% increase over the first film’s $94.3 million opening in 2014.
GotG Vol. 2‘s domestic opening is the fifth best ever for Marvel Studios and the highest opening for any of the studio’s films that do not feature Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man. In the broader superhero genre, $146.5 million is the best opening frame for a film that does not include Iron Man, Batman, or Spider-Man.
