In Hawkeye’s upcoming series on Disney Plus, Jeremy Renner won’t be the only actor to take up the mantle of Hawkeye. The series will also tell the story of Kate Bishop, who Variety reports will be played by actor Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee).
Renner has played Hawkeye dating back to 2012’s The Avengers, but he traded in his bow for a sword in this year’s Avengers: Endgame. His upgraded persona means someone needs to pick up where he left off, and in the comics, it was Bishop, who was also a member of the Young Avengers.
Variety speculates that Steinfeld’s hiring could mean a longterm investment from Marvel:
Given the Disney-owner company’s uncanny ability to build up onscreen franchises around even their lesser-known characters, it is reasonable to assume that the Bishop character would eventually spin off into either her own standalone series or even appear in the MCU.
Hawkeye is currently scheduled for a fall 2021 release on Disney+, so Steinfeld has plenty of time to mull it over. If she does sign up for a show, chances are it’ll be a multi-year commitment, as Variety speculates, especially if she’s destined to appear in the MCU.
In addition to Hawkeye, Marvel has a handful of other shows planned for Disney+, including Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and Vision and Scarlet Witch.
