Production has officially started on the young Han Solo Star Wars Story. There is no press release yet, but the news has come from as good a source as any.
Chris Miller, who’s directing the film with Phil Lord, tweeted a behind-the-scenes photo this morning with a slate showing today’s date. The “Han First Shot” message within the tweet is clear enough, as is the production title “Red Cup,” referring to a pun Miller first tweeted in July 2015.

Han Solo is the second stand-alone Star Wars Story film after last year’s billion-dollar hit, Rogue One. Alden Ehrenreich stars as the young Han Solo, stepping into the impossibly large boots of Harrison Ford, and Donald Glover has his own icon to recreate, playing the younger version of Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson also star in yet to be named roles.
There is no official release date (or title) for the Han Solo Star Wars Story, but it is expected to be released in December 2018.
