‘Iron Fist’ — what did you think?

Average, I don’t think it was 14% terrible but it was definitely average. This is the first Marvel product I had been excited about in years as it looked like something unique and plus I’ve always had a fondness for Bruce Lee movies and such. I knew nothing of the character going in apart from the Wikipedia page I had read and one comic I picked up to try and introduce myself to the character.
I was disappointed, I thought the lead actor was average at best, the fight scenes seemed off and I just found myself bored with the show. I like the idea and potential of the show but I don’t think it got anywhere close to where it could have been in the first season. Out of the Netflix Marvel shows I’ve seen, I thought this was the worst. Not 14% terrible but definitely the most mediocre product Marvel has put out that I’ve seen so far. -
It’s a nice little addition to the larger marvel/netflix universe, but while it had some interesting stuff like the deeper look into The Hand and the interplay between Harold and Ward, I feel like the show suffered from some editing issues, which I wouldn’t have expected for a Netflix show. The format usually allows the director to unpack the story at a good pace without having to worry about not having enough time to flesh out important plot points, but right from the first episode, something felt off. Will have to rewatch it and see how I really feel about it. Overall, the show wasn’t that bad, and the 17% rating on rotten tomatoes is deceptive; it’s not a good indicator of quality. I’d give it a C+ to B-.
A decent introduction to Danny Rand, although I wish they showed more of Danny’s childhood in Kun Lun, would’ve helped the viewers be more emotionally invested in Danny’s journey and struggles. I’m definitely interested in seeing Iron Fist with the Defenders, so the show was successful in making me like the character. Hopefully they show more instances of him using the full extent of his powers, like in the last episode. That looked really awesome, and it’s something unique to Danny Rand that none of the other Defenders offer. Also, they could definitely step up the choreography to Daredevil level. I think any flaws with the show come from whoever was responsible for production, so keep them away from the Defenders production. The cast and larger story was great, just not it’s execution.

I’m not done with it yet but for now I’ll say it’s really good, so far it’s bitch-slapped Luke Cage because it’s waaaayyy better than that show and the supporting cast is far superior to Jessica Jones’. I would say that Danny (the main character) feels the most likable and grounded of Marvel’s 4 TV protagonists (in terms of personality).
In all honesty, I think that this for sure proves that Rotten Tomatoes is falling off the wagon, I think they were wrong about this, and they were definitely wrong about B v S aswell.

Binge watched the series this weekend. It was 3/5. Worst Netflix series Marvel has done yet. It was derivative and predictable. The choreography was slow, sloppy and did not shine for a show about a high level martial artist. Plus, for a character supposedly trained to control his body, mind and spirit Danny Rand often flew off the handle showing the script was not well thought out. The plot points made little sense and seemed haphazard. Character development was weak and often forced or overlooked. The character of Harold Meecham was the highlight of the whole show, and his character was the only one of significant mystery and depth, far more than Danny Rand’s character.
Overall, 3/5. Try harder Marvel…we, the fans, expect more from you. This is not DC after all. -
I bit disappointed. Was expecting more from it.
Too many episodes for this storyline. It would be a more entertaining show if it had like 8-9 episodes. Luke Cage had the same problem.
Out of the 4 Marvel Netflix shows, this one is the weakest. -
Felt kinda lazy and rushed with cliches.
