While making Guardians of the Galaxy, writer-director James Gunn had a different villain in mind before ultimately deciding on Ronan (Lee Pace). Gunn’s top choice was Annihilus until he learned that the character was included in Fox’s license for the Fantastic Four franchise. Now that Disney is purchasing Fox, that antagonist will be available, but Gunn isn’t changing any of his plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

During a Q&A session on Twitter, Gunn was blunt when asked if the impending merger would have an impact on his next film.
