Talking exclusively to Digital Spy Hugh Jackman revealed that he and director James Mangold had decided to ignore the various complicated X-Men timelines and that they don’t even see the film existing in quite the same world.

And neither was Deadpool… spoiler alert. LOL A true standalone film, that doesn’t have to tie directly into any prior or future film. Props to them for not overthinking it, and allowing Jackman to go out the way he wanted to.

I’m wondering if he isn’t just exaggerating the “different feel” into a “different universe”. Or maybe some really effed up shit has happened… But in the end, I just want this movie to be good.

best thing that could have happened. stop making universes, thats marvel’s job… start telling good stories. after all these years we all know who the players are, use whatever characters fit the story and get to it!

From what I understand the director wanted it this far away so they could do their own thing not burdened by connecting it completely to the previous movies. To say it’s not set in the same universe is kinda wrong considering you got Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman from said universe. Then again like Zelda it seems Fox just wants to confuse the hell out of us trying to figure out the timeline
