what are you talking about. if we are discussing icons then I’m pretty sure merchandise sales are a factor. The fact IS spiderman sells more merchandise then batman and superman put together. His movies have made more then both of them. doesn’t that mean he is a bigger icon now the way zorro used to be a big icon until batman replaced him?

By that logic, Cars is a pop culture icon that surpasses Superman, Batman and all heroes. And that is not true. Kids like to play with cars, and there’s an entire fucking animated franchise with talking cars, so it’s simply brilliant marketing. Also, you do know that Superman had 2 movies in the end of the 70’s/start of the 80’s. Adjust that for inflation, and the first Superman movie made almost 1 billion, more than any Spider-Man movie, without 3d or any kind of ticket price inflation technology. Same for Batman (1989).
Also, No Spider-Man movie has made as much as the last 2 movies in Nolan’s trilogy. So, by that logic, you lose the argument. Merchandising is simply not how you determine an icon of pop culture.
Hell, Superman’s symbol is widely regarded as the second most well known symbol on earth, only behind the Christian cross. So, no. I know you were just trolling and didn’t read any of thsi, but it was fun. Toodles. -

Superman The Movie made about 134M in the US alone back in 1978. Adjusted for inflation, that’s 507M in the US alone. Overseas, it made 166M. Now, adjusting the overseas total for inflation is tough, but it surely could be more than 500M. So the first superman movie without 3d, imax, etc., made over a billion worldwide when adjusted for inflation. Do you get it now?
Either way, my very first reply still stands. By that logic, Pirates or Transformers are more iconic than Superman or Batman, and that is simply not true in the slightest. As I’ve said before, the Superman cross is literally the second most well known symbol in the world… If that isn’t iconic and a refference in CULTURE as a whole, I don’t know what is.
Also, by that logic Guardians of the Galaxy or Forest Gump were iconic as fuck before their movies, given the movies made so much money. Oh wait.

At this point? There’s almost 0% chance Justice League makes more than Infinity War. A well received, well made Justice League movie? Maybe, but you already know that it is very difficult for Justice League to be well received at this point. Not because of any conspiracy against it by the media, as Lego Batman and Wonder Woman proved this very same year, but because Snyder is extremely bad at taking criticism.
Either way, Infinity War will be huge, and even if it falters with the critics, it should make MUCH more than Justice League. The ammount of good-will that Marvel and the MCU have, not to mention uniting the avengers with guardians, and all that jazz, even if it is bad, it should make well over a billion, easily. Making over a billion is not even a guarantee for Justice League.-
Maybe, but despite what Joss says, i don’t think that JL is Zack’s movie anymore. Even if it is, i doubt he’ll be held accountable if it goes wrong, so i wouldn’t worry about that too much. But to a lot of people, the Justice League movie is a dream come true, It’s the meeting of the greatest superhero team of all time on the silver screen.
I think everyone on this site focuses too much on money. Money earned doesn’t equal a better movie. I think Justice League will be great, and it’ll be hard to beat it. Honestly, Infinity War probably should’ve had even more setup, because putting in all the existing characters plus new ones will be hard to balance. Hell, i’m not even sure they’ll be able to give everyone their due screen time.

I’m just saying, the movie being made is not a reason to praise it. It’s a fucking product, executives know it’s a super hero team up property. It’s not being made from a place of love and nothing else. There’s a lot of money signs riding on it. -
I think you’re the one with the botched mindset. Just because i’m a JL fan and think i’ll like the movie doesn’t mean anything bad. I know it’s about the money for executives, but i don’t care. If i spend my whole life just worrying about how some things matter to me that don’t matter to others i’ll waste alot of time. So if you want to worry about money, if that’s what these movies are all about for you, then that’s what it’s about for you. But they also make these movies because they know people will enjoy it. Worrying about how much money they’re gonna make is their job, don’t make it yours. You should just try to enjoy it.

This is probably the biggest reply with absolutely no point made whatsoever that I’ve ever gotten. Seriously, what is your point? You simply made a very nonsensical comment. Yeah, you’ll probably like it because you’re a fan of these movies either way, but to actually say that you’re thankful for the movie simply existing is a very sad way of seeing things. It takes away all critical thinking you could have about the movie. The point is, you should want a good Justice League movie, not just A Justice League movie. They’re not making this for the fans. They’re making it for millions of people who never even read a Justice League comic book who just want to catch a movie in theaters.

The most famous female superhero in the world got the lowest opening weekend in dceu history and failed to make as much as gotg2 a team even comic fans hadn’t heard of. So yeah keep laughing.
