The $100-million-budgeted Lionsgate/Summit release earned just $14m over the Wed-Sun debut frame. There are two big caveats. The film doesn’t open overseas until this coming weekend and Lionsgate covered much of the budget via foreign presales, but it’s a domestic dud for sure and an embarrassing whiff on which to end the year. Moreover, it is without question the year’s most predictable box office bomb. Heck, I’ve been doing the “John McClane frantically waves his fire torches in the air” routine for over three years.
