I think the reason I’m so indifferent to this movie is because the entire movie is about the MacGuffin from Episode IV. As Hitchcock described it, a MacGuffin is something which is of vital importance to the characters in a movie (and thus the catalyst for propelling the plot) but which the audience doesn’t care about at all (the audience is only interested in the results of the story that the MacGuffin triggered). So they’ve made a movie about something which, by design, the audience isn’t supposed to care about. That’s probably why I’m having so much trouble getting excited for it.
I’m trying to think of any appropriate analogy. It would be like making an entire film about the people who work in the sled factory where Orson Welles got Rosebud in Citizen Kane. I just don’t care about that.
