Star Wars: Episode IX is getting a rewrite.
Jack Thorne, the British scribe who wrote the upcoming Julia Roberts-Jacob Tremblay movie Wonder, has been tapped to work on the Star Wars installment that is to be directed by Colin Trevorrow.
Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly wrote the most recent draft of the script and were working off a treatment by Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth installment of the sci-fi fantasy that opens December 15.

It is astounding, if the this were a DCEU movie, people (&/or the haters) over on BatmanNews.com would be screaming like wounded boars right about now, pulling their hairs out, and/or smiling & what not. Those same people are probably fans of Star Wars too, but they won’t say a word about this.

As if most of the time the people making it look bad/negative aren’t the fanboys screaming at the blogs and websites for simply publishing news…

They better keep a close eye on the director and hope he don’t pull no Book of Henry bullshit.

Collin Trevorrow is a bad director anyways, couple that with the fact that the new SW movies are utter crap, and yeah, this movie is doomed.

While I do agree that Rogue One was dull beyond belief, how was The Force Awakens utter crap in any way?
Definitely agree that Trevorrow would never be in anyone’s mind to direct a star wars movie, after only making a small movie no one ever saw and a dumb blockbuster that was as generic as they come.0 likes-
It’s not, it’s just a hyperbole… although I do think Rogue One was extremely bad.
As for TFA, it’s fine as a stand-alone film, but it’s not so if you judge it as part of a franchise. Not only did it unashamedly copy A New Hope down to a T, it basically destroyed everything the original trilogy accomplished, narratively speaking. Luke is now a Jedi and is set to teach a new generation of Jedi? Nope. Leia will become acquainted with the Force, which was heavily hinted at in Ep 5 and 6? Think again. The empire is destroyed and balance is restored to the galaxy? Not even close, in fact Ep 7 makes it seem as though nothing accomplished in previous movies was of any significance whatsoever. And for what? All because JJ Abrams was too lazy to make an original story and instead opted to copy paste the exact same story and structure of the original film and that’s the only reason as to why the film doesn’t even freaking bother explaining how the “First Order” came to be… how the “Republic” is so weak… Why there is even a need for a “Resistance” when in fact the Republic won that battle 30 years prior. If anything, it’s the First Order who should be on the run. And don’t even get me started on Mary Sue, I mean Rey… She is by far the very worst Mary Sue character of all time. Her character is just a blatant disrespect towards the classic SW lore. The fact that she was even able to defeat Kylo Ren, is a huge insult to the audience’s intelligence. Then there’s the obscene political correctness and more story retreads like the “Starkiller” (which was just absolutely moronic on every level) with a lame as fuck villain, Pussy Ren who just has petty rage issues. Then there’s the excessively cheesy dialogue, like for example when Finn and Rey or Finn and Poe talk to each other like they’ve been friends for decades when they’e just known each other for a couple of mintus. It’s cringy as fuck.
Again, if you judge it by its own merits, the movie’s fine. It’s far better than Rogue One… but the story, characters and political agenda ruined it for me.1 like-
It’s the first movie in a trilogy of movies. Calm ya tits, Princess.

I’m not saying it’s anything exciting because TFA had lots of faults, but not picking up the threads from RoJ shouldn’t be one of them. If this was 5 years, I’m with you. It’s 30 years later. Shit happens.
Not sure your age, but you’ll find out how you last saw people at high school graduation isn’t the same as how you’ll see them at your 20 year reunion. Life happens, plans change.

I get that, but there is zero rationalization or context concerning the dynamics between the First Order and the Republic. It wouldn’t be so bad if we at least got something, but the movie doesn’t even freaking bother giving us the tiniest of hints as to how it all came to be. After WW2, the Nazis were permanently eliminated. There is just no way they could come back from that. Same thing with the Empire. It’s not merely the hierarchy they eliminated, it’s their entire ideology which crumbled from within. As for the individual characters, it’s fine for them to do things outside of their comfort zones, but what Luke did is not just a change of plan, it’s a complete insult to his core beliefs and character. Same with Leia… TFA makes it clear she didn’t even bother learning the ways of the force. Not once in 30 freaking years. That’s not “a change of plan”. That’s just blatant inconsistency in terms of character progression.
It would be acceptable if it was truly as a result of life experience, but it’s not. It’s simply because they were lazy and copy pasted the OT.0 likes -
I’d like to see some explanations in this next one. They wasted 7 with rehashed fluffy to bring in the younger generation. Truth is, who’s coming to 7 without see at least the original trilogy?
I’ve only watch it once. Is it clear the First Order immediately followed the Empire’s fall? I was under the impression it was either a splinter group filling in the vacuum left behind, or large pockets of what was the empire gaining traction over 30 years. Could the First Order have started much like the Rebels did following Palpatine’s control of the Senate?
Again, under the impression of some new details, it’d be easy to see Leia abandoning force training due to her responsibilities continuing the Rebellion or even as a mother. Truth is, 7 didn’t give us answers, 8 could. We can’t completely eliminate “life happening” until the credits roll in 9.

I often wonder what Lucas had planned for these 3 movies.

That’s probably because Trevorrow is a craptastic writer and director. Do you really want the director of Jurassic World directing the concluding Star Wars movie? Hey at least Rian Johnson is doing the second one. I think we are in for another Empire Strike Back like surprise.
