Did Star Wars: The Last Jedi destroy the franchise and permanently rupture the fandom as its critics (melodramatically) have accused it of doing? According to a new academic paper by researcher Morten Bay, the answer is clearly no.
The paper, titled Weaponizing The Haters: The Last Jedi and the strategic politicization of pop culture through social media manipulation, examines the online response to 2017’s Last Jedi, a movie that has come to be considered controversial amongst the larger fanbase of the franchise.
Bay suggests that reputation may not be earned, and instead “finds evidence of deliberate, organized political influence measures disguised as fan arguments,” as he writes in the paper’s abstract. He continues, “The likely objective of these measures is increasing media coverage of the fandom conflict, thereby adding to and further propagating a narrative of widespread discord and dysfunction in American society. Persuading voters of this narrative remains a strategic goal for the U.S. alt-right movement, as well as the Russian Federation.”

Many people liked the movie, many did not. Probably more did than didn’t. Can the fans of it just accept that not everyone shares their views?
These articles/research/whatever and the Zach Snyder ones are getting old. Like they’re written by a scorned ex.(I know SHNews is just reporting, not writing them.)

Dividing star wars fans will destroy America? Are you kidding me? Does anyone actually believe that? It’s a fact that far more people hated the Last Jedi than liked it, because it’s a BAD MOVIE. This ludicrous idea that anyone would waste their time to somehow cause the downfall of America by making it seem like a hated movie was even more hated is idiotic. Seriously, the conductor of this so-called “study” should be ashamed of themselves. I’m disgusted by these pointless and quite frankly insane conclusions.

Even if the backlash (partly) was politically motivated, why is that reason enough to dismiss it? The movie itself was politically motivated (which KK and JJ don’t even deny), so why is it such an outrage when fans of different political opinions disagree?
What this proves to me is that Disney and Hollywood, pretty much the entire leftist elite, HATE it when people push politics that aren’t their own, even though they constantly push political rhetoric themselves. Bunch of easily offended, pretentious, morally supremacist hypocrites. -

Why is difference in opinion such a taboo thing nowadays? If you disliked the new Ghostbusters film, you apparently hate women, if you disliked Black Panther, then you are clearly a racist, if you hate the new Star Wars films, you are a Russian spy/bot/troll?
Maybe people disliked it because of the story or the bland characters or maybe they don’t like the genre, NO, NO, NO, there must be a more sinister reason then that!
