While the poor reception to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 lead to Sony striking a deal with Marvel and starting over once again with Spider-Man, Webb had no regrets and was very proud of the movies that he made. Check out his full answer below.

The first one was good.
The second one was ruined by studio interference.-
I’d take action scenes turned into Pharrel’s music video over any MCU action scenes with their forgetable score any time of the day. I still cringe at Homecoming till this day, probably won’t have the stomache to watch it.

The usual characterization problems I have to agree with you, but the action scenes were pretty solid. Most of the scores by Hans Zimmer were decent. Both 1 & 2 weren’t as bad as most people make it out to be, even the “convoluted plot” everyone keeps on whining about is actually quite easy to follow. As for too much villains, well, Spiderman 3 had too much villains as well.
If you’ve seen the latest Homecoming trailer, then you’ve pretty much watched the movie, just missing the Tom Holland kissing Zendaya scene.

Change for the sake of change is pretty much the order of the decade. Anyways, I don’t discredit Raimi at all, he’s a very good director. His Spiderman trilogy was a classic. I just never really understood the hate TASM got is all.

Very true. Now I am reminded of my first thoughts when they announced Asm 1, exactly that, why not continue the Raimi version. I guess I didn’t put too much thought about it at the time.

Marc Webb had almost no control over the second movie.
He just pretends like it because if he told the truth the studio would ruin his reputation. Some studios are real shady. It’s very easy for someone though that knows alot about movies to know when studio interference is the problem.Fantastic 4 is another example. The latest one.

I take “The Untold Story” gimmick any day over the “if I’m nothing without the suit, then I don’t deserve to be a hero” garbage.

Yeah, but the scene where he stood up against Flash makes his bravery as a superhero more believable imo. But yeah he was a d*ck at times.. kinda..

As he should be. These weren’t “Marvel” enough. I would rewatch these over most of the MCU any day of the week.
