Remember when the Death Star was the size of a “small moon?”
Now it’s big enough for a Star Destroyer to fit in that narrow trench.
Wow.
It’s supposed to be 160 km in diameter. Depending on how far it’s orbiting, it could be a proper perspective.
The first time we saw a ship in the trench was when the Falcon was being brought inside via tractor beam. It was pretty cavernous then. But during the final battle, it seemed tough to squeeze a couple X-wings in the same trench side by side. In the shot from the trailer, Star Destroyers can be seen in the far distance that could easily fit in the same equatorial trench.
So that “160 km in diameter” is pretty sketchy. I’m guessing that info originally came from West End Games. https://uploads.disquscdn.c…
The targeted exhaust port’s trench isn’t THE equatorial trench that is visible from afar. Docking Bay 3207 (pictured in your post) is, though.
And 160 Km. in diameter wasn’t the official size at the time of Legends, but 120. It was also confirmed in a source book of the new canon.
The film makes it pretty clear that the fighters are heading toward the equator. And the computer graphics in the rebel briefing were obviously obsolete.
How long is a Star Destroyer these days?
The canonical size hasn’t changed. You’re wrong.
“Canonical size.” HA! He’s not wrong.
What’s on screen is canon.
What’s on screen changes.
There’s no “size.” There are varying sizes depending on which shot you’re referencing.
