Movies like Deadpool and Logan helped show studios that R-rated superhero movies could still be hits at the box office. Many fans were hoping that Venom would continue that trend, but a new comment from star Tom Hardy suggests that they’re going in a different direction.

Last month at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Hardy took the stage to promote Venom. He said his reason for taking the role was because he wanted to star in a movie that his son could see. His son was born in 2008, which would make him just 9 or 10 years old. Recently, Hardy has starred in R-rated movies like The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Venom won’t get an official rating from the Motion Picture Association of America until August or September, but Hardy’s comments seem to suggest that they’re aiming for PG-13.

Are you still holding out hope that Venom is rated-R? Would you be fine with it being PG-13? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
