The first piece of big news is that the Venom movie starring Tom Hardy will feature Carnage! With rumors of an R-rating for that movie, Carnage is a great fit. And speaking of Spider-Man spinoffs, The Hollywood Reporter says that Sony is also working on movies for Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio.
Meh… this is moving along WAY TOO FAST. Considering Feige’s reaction, I am more prepared for a letdown than a comeup.
Just like with Gambit, Venom is just being brought about the wrong way. There is difference between how you handle Elektra and how you handle Wonder Woman. There is care for the story, and the EXTREMELY obvious absence of Spider-man makes this story NON-SPIDERMAN and therefore some original fan-film of “What-if Eddie got the symbiote without Spider-man?”. Remember Catwoman disregarding Selina Kyle and Batman? TELL ME HOW THAT WENT! Don’t give me “Tom Hardy’s such a good actor” BS – HALLE WON A DAMN OSCAR BEFORE CATCRAPWOMAN. Eventually all actors get their “Gigli.”
It’s this wonky “Need to make money” hip-jerk reaction from Sony. It is obvious that Feige is not cool with it. I love Tom Hardy, and I dug him as Bane (albeit not a true interpretation but still menacing – this likely will be the case with Venom), but just can’t let this one go as something passable.
In essence, Venom to me seems like one of those special one-off comics like Arkham Asylum which is its own self-contained story rather than something which is part of a greater universe. I am a bit disappointed in how this is shaping up.

Even if the movie’s crap, you can bet Tom Hardy will be legit as always.
…But seriously, all of it sounds cool, and Mysterio is my favorite Spider-man villain, but can he carry his own movie? Maybe Sony doesn’t care, seeing as how they gave a movie to Silver Sable and Black Cat

These should all be Spider-Man sequels, NOT standalone movies. Why Sony…
