DC FanDome kicked off with a Wonder Woman 1984 panel on Saturday, and after a brief interview with the cast, director Patty Jenkins showed off a brand new trailer.
The trailer is made up almost entirely of fresh footage, and it particularly focuses on Kristen Wiig’s villain Barbara Ann Minerva, aka Cheetah.
We already knew she would strike a friendship with Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman), but the trailer suggests their friendship goes sour, causing Cheetah to seek vengeance. And what a formidable opponent she looks to be, going toe to toe with Wonder Woman with relative ease.
Pedra Pascal’s Maxwell Lord also makes an appearance, acting as a kind of influencer who appears to manipulate Barbara in some way.
Finally, Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor also makes an appearance as Diana’s love interest and fish out of water. We still aren’t sure how Trevor still alive since he was presumed dead at the end of the first movie. But he is fully aware that he’s in a completely different decade — and fully out of touch with 80’s fashion.
As of this writing, Wonder Woman 1984 is slated to release in theaters on October 2, 2020, but with things still so in flux due to the pandemic, that could easily change.
