During a set visit rundown at Digital Spy, the site said both director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg characterized recasting the role as impossible.
“I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories,” Kinberg said. “So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can’t imagine anybody else playing the part, and there’s not too many characters I can say that for.”

At least kill him off if you can’t recast. With people’s obsession with having a super hero be killed off for good in a comic book movie, do you have any idea how big this movie would be if the main character makes a heroic sacrifice and ACTUALLY stays dead legitimately? Plus I’d just think it would just be a greater send off for the character and actor than just recasting them.
