“I want to make one thing perfectly clear today,” Ruffalo said. “A stand-alone Hulk movie will never happen because Universal has the rights to the stand-alone Hulk movie and, for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel. And clearly they don’t like money. But I feel like I have two or three years before I’m too old to play the Hulk.
“We’ve talked about it and I just don’t see it in the cards.”
Universals Ego is too big after that year they scored big with Fast 6 and Jurassic Park

I don’t recall those first two Hulk movies setting any records for Universal Mark. Get over yourself.
Alan Conn
This uh… this is true…
SuperZilla
Which is why they should give him back over to Marvel. No point in keeping him if you’re not going to use him.

If Disney wanted the rights to this character they would provide Universal with an offer they couldn’t refuse. The financial reality is Incredible Hulk barely outgrossed Hulk. There’s no money in a solo film.

And after they pay for the rights how much money do they make off the movie?
That and this silly little tidbit: Lowest grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film by a large margin. Put any spin you want on it, that’s the truth.
Besides, they seem more interested in “team up” movies for established characters now anyway.
SuperZilla
There was no money for it in 2008. Ever since the first Avengers, Hulk has always been an audience favorite. In a post Avengers superhero movie age where something like Guardians has made huge bank, I don’t see any reality where a new solo Hulk film makes less than $700 million. Based off of how Thor Ragnarok does I’m almost willing to bet Universal and Marvel will start talking.
Trapdoor
Actually Marvel have the rights back – to make it, but Universal still have distribution rights. Meaning that Marvel have to give first rights to distribute to Universal (making them a heap of free money & losing Marvel a heap).

A confusing situation. Doesn’t surprise me that Ruffalo would be confused as well.
SuperZilla
Shame. Aside from Spidey he’s my favorite Avenger. Loved The Incredible Hulk.
Steph & Ayesha r havin a baby!
And cast Ed Norton to confuse people even more.
Schuyler Finley
That would be a huge “Fuck you” to Marvel Studios. And I think Norton would love to do it too.
TØM
What?! No way!
Ravager
NO one wants a Hulk movie, he’s not a good enough character
cjflan32
I wouldn’t go that far. I just don’t think that, after working out the rights financially, there’s any profit in it.
Ravager
I don’t think Hulk translates well to the big screen
