According to /Film, Justice League was originally going to end with a big cliffhanger with Darkseid arriving to Earth, setting him up to be the main villain for the sequel. Now that ending has been completely scrapped. /Film says that Wonder Woman actor Robin Wright shot a new flashback scene explaining who Steppenwolf is. The looming threat of Darkseid is being downplayed with the reshoots.

I like that they aren’t rushing into Darkseid. It took Marvel almost 15-20 films to get to Thanos.
You can easily have another Justice League movie with other villains, like Brainiac, or even go all out with legion of doom. Darkseid should be saved for much later.
In the end though, you hope with these extensive re-shoots that it would go the way of Rogue One (which was a success) vs. what happened with the rebooted Fantastic 4, which was just utterly ugly AF. Fingers crossed!
