Marvel on Monday released the first official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, giving us a better look at the God of Thunder’s newest adventure. In addition to extended trailer time for Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), we also get our first look at Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale).
Whereas the first teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder gave us a few quick glimpses of the upcoming film, the official trailer gives us a much better idea of the story. As Korg (Taika Waititi) tells it, the movie is about “the space viking, Thor Odinson.” But, as we find out, it’s about so much more. Case in point: Gorr the God Butcher very much wants to, well, butcher all gods.

Without delving too much into Gorr’s backstory, he has, shall we say, a vendetta against all gods. So, naturally, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Mighty Thor tango with Gorr. In fact, we get a few looks at them facing off in Snyder-esque flashback scenes (or what appear to be flashback scenes). The movie itself is bright and colorful and carries over a similar tone from the beloved Thor: Ragnarok.
Noticeably missing from the majority of the latest trailer is the Guardians, whom we saw in the initial teaser. How much they’ll factor into Thor’s third film remains to be seen. Regardless, the team has their own third movie to take care of, so we’ll be seeing plenty of them either way.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
