Marvel Studios released three films this year and each is an Oscar® contender. Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp are all among the 20 films still in contention in the visual effects category. They will have to compete with each other and 17 other strong contenders in hopes of being nominated.

Ryan Coogler has reportedly closed a deal to write and direct a Black Panther sequel for Marvel Studios. Production on the film is expected to start between late 2019 and early 2020. That should set the stage for a theatrical release in 2021, if not November 2020.
