Read the Full StoryCaptain Marvel is just a few months away from principal photography, which means the casting news will be flowing steadily from here on out. Ben Mendelsohn recently joined the cast as the film’s villain and now Variety reports that Jude Law is in negotiations to play Dr. Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, a.k.a. the original Captain Marvel (or Captain Mar-Vell).
Dr. Lawson will serve as a mentor to Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she gets a handle on her new powers. In the comics, Lawson is a scientist, but not all he seems because the real Lawson actually died and Mar-Vell assumed his identity when the latter arrived on Earth. Mar-Vell is Kree, the same alien race as Ronan (Lee Pace) from Guardians of the Galaxy, which fits with the film as it will include, at least in part, the famous Kree-Skrull War.
